Our History

EQUIP Training, formerly known as SPSIL, was established under the auspices of Wycliffe Bible Translators Australia. The first SIL school was held in Australia in 1949 by Dr. Ken Pike in an old farmhouse in Berwick, Victoria. From that date until 1983 SIL was run as an intensive summer school. At that time, Dr. Bruce Hooley established the school on the current site at Kangaroo Ground, Victoria and the courses were developed into full year programmes which gained accreditation in 1998 and 1999.
